S.V.P.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, better known at the S.V.P. is a society of Lay Catholic Women and Men who seek to offer practical help to those in need, both locally and in other countries. To those in the local area this is offered through Prayer, visits and befriending. 'Being there' with somebody is so important, and this is a big part of the SVP's work. For overseas work most Conferences are twined with another SVP Conference in the Third World, and correspond. On a National and International Level the SVP helps to fund projects. The SVP is an international Catholic organization that was founded in 1833 by a Young University Student in Paris called Frederick Ozanam. Whilst studying in Paris Frederick Ozanam saw great poverty, so he and six of his companions formed the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to help them put their Catholic Christian Faith into action. St. Vincent de Paul was a French Roman Catholic Priest who died in 1660, and was remembered for his care of the poor and those in need. Today, most Roman Catholic Churches have an SVP Conference. To contact our Parish SVP Conference, e-mail them from this link! Our Parish Group, due to members ill health and falling numbers has gone into a period of abeyance, which it is hoped will not be permanent, but other local SVP Groups are available to give support.
