Parish Ministries
There are various Groups of people that seek to serve and enrich the life of our Parish and Community. Here are some them:
Eucharistic Ministers
Eucharistic Ministers are Lay Women and Men who are specially authorized to assist with distribution of Holy Communion. At Mass, the Eucharist, the celebration of Holy Communion, they assist the Priest with distributing the consecrated bread and wine to the people. We believe that when the Priest says the prayer of Thanksgiving at Mass, the 'Eucharistic Prayer' over the bread and wine they become the Body and Blood of Christ - the complete gift of Jesus Christ to us, so that we may share his life, and be encouraged to live his Good News in our lives. When the Priest cannot be present, Eucharistic Ministers assist in Lay Led Services of 'Word and Communion' when the Bible Readings of the Day are read, and Holy Communion from Sacrament consecrated at a previous Mass is distributed. Eucharistic Ministers also take Holy Communion to those members of our Parish who are sick and housebound.
Readers
The reading of 'Word of God'- 'the Scriptures' - 'the Bible' is essential part of all our Services. The Bible is the story of humanity's relationship with God, and when we hear the scriptures we are encouraged in our journey of faith. Readers also lead the prayers which express the needs of our Parish and Community - the Prayers of Intercession.
Altar Servers
These are young people who assist the Priest with the 'Ceremony' during Services. They attend by carrying candles, the processional cross, bring books to the Priest, etc. We have several ceremonies and customs that Altar Servers assist with.
Music Leaders
We have several people who assist with Music at our Services. At our main weekend Masses we have more traditional Hymns at the Saturday 6.00pm Vigil Mass and more modern Music at the 10.00am Sunday Mass. Though this rule is not written in stone, and there are several variations on a theme!
Catechists
These are Lay People who assist in the preparation of our children for the Sacraments of First Forgiveness and First Holy Communion, another group helps prepare our young people in preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, and yet another group assist Adults who are seeking information and faith within our Church. Some of these Catechists in these various groups are the same people - though not all! Please see note below
Behind the Scenes Ministry
There are also many people who serve this Parish 'behind the scenes' as Sacristans, cleaners, flower arrangers, administration and many others ways.
